Lokoja, Kogi State – September 2026

As Kogi State prepares for the Local Government Election scheduled for 17th October, 2026, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Kogi State Chapter lead by Hon Iliyas Badanga, has called on all participating political parties to embark on vigorous and issue-based campaigns to sensitize the general public.

The call was made by the State Chairman of IPAC, Kogi State during a stakeholders’ engagement with political party leaders in Lokoja.

According to IPAC, the time has come for the electorate to elect candidates of their choice based on competence, character, and sincerity of purpose that will bring prosperity, peace and development to the grassroots,as the third tier of government.

“The local government is the closest to the people. We must move away from politics of religion, ethnicity and sectionalism. Let us elect people who have the capacity, good character and sincerity to deliver,” the IPAC Chairman stated.

ADHERE TO ELECTORAL GUIDELINES AND CONSTITUTION – IPAC CHAIRMAN WARNS

As parties embark on campaigns for next month’s election, the Chairman of IPAC Kogi State further encouraged all political parties to obey the rules embedded in the electoral guidelines and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He stressed that:

  1. Campaigns must be peaceful and issue-based – no hate speech, no incitement.
  2. Respect for SIECOM Guidelines – All parties must respect the guidelines issued by Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission.
  3. Respect for the Constitution – The 1999 Constitution as amended remains supreme.

IPAC will not tolerate any party that violates the electoral law. We want a free, fair, credible and peaceful Local Government Election that will be a model for others,” the Chairman added.

IPAC also called on KOSIEC to ensure a level playing field for all political parties and urged security agencies to be neutral.

The council assured that it will continue to monitor and engage all stakeholders to ensure that the October 17 election brings competent leaders who will bring prosperity to the people at the grassroots.
