Nigeria’s dominance in youth handball was emphatically reaffirmed on Saturday in Lomé, Lomé, as the country’s Under-18 and Under-20 men’s teams secured a historic double victory at the IHF Trophy Africa Zone 3.
Both teams delivered commanding performances in their respective finals, underlining Nigeria’s growing stature as a powerhouse in African youth handball and reinforcing the effectiveness of ongoing grassroots development initiatives.
In the Under-18 final, Nigeria overwhelmed Côte d’Ivoire with a resounding 32–19 victory. The team displayed exceptional tactical discipline, defensive solidity, and attacking cohesion, controlling the match from the opening whistle to the final buzzer. Their dominance throughout the competition further highlighted their emergence as one of the most promising youth squads in the region.
The Under-20 team replicated this success with an equally impressive 39–29 triumph over Benin Republic in the senior youth final. Demonstrating superior technical quality and offensive efficiency, the Nigerian side dictated the tempo of the game and maintained a comfortable lead, sealing a deserved championship win.
The International Handball Federation’s IHF Trophy is a key developmental competition designed to promote handball at the grassroots level across emerging nations.
