The tension that erupted at the Enyimba FC training facility involving the club’s Sporting Director, Daniel Eke, has been described by an eyewitness as baseless and a deliberate attempt to discredit his work
An eyewitness who confided in our reporter said the developing story being widely circulated online is untrue.
Contrary to reports that Eke brought Personel of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) to disrupt the team’s training session and whisk club officials away during a confrontation.
The eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, stated that the situation would not have escalated if it had been properly handled by the club Chairman, Amb. Kanu Nwankwo.
“Daniel only came with the RRS personnel to arrest one of the stadium security officials who attacked and inflicted injuries on him moments after Enyimba’s 0-1 loss to Inter Lagos, labeling him as the cause of the defeat.
“It was at that point that the said security official ran towards the area where the club chairman was. There was no training session going on at that time. No player, member of the coaching crew or administrative staff was aware of what had unfolded earlier.
“It was the club chairman and the head coach that ordered the staff and players out of their abode to make it look as if the Sporting Director came with RRS personnel to disrupt the team’s training session.
“It really baffled me to see different publications circulating online assassinating Daniel’s character because of reports of disagreements surrounding the club’s administration and football operations,” the eyewitness said.
Efforts to reach the Sporting Director for his reaction on the matter proved abortive as of the time of filing this report.
