The Kogi State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Aridaojo Monday Anyebe, has brokered a peace and reconciliation meeting between the current leadership of the National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS) and the immediate past National Executive Council, in a bid to resolve the disagreements, petitions and other contentious issues between the two administrations.

The meeting, held on Friday, October 2, 2026, was attended by the Commissioner, members of the immediate past National Executive Council, the current National Executive Council led by the National President, and the NAKOSS Senate President.
The meeting was convened against the backdrop of disagreements and petitions arising between the current and immediate past administrations, with the objective of finding a peaceful, responsible and lasting resolution to the issues threatening unity and stability within the students’ body.

After listening to the submissions of the concerned parties and considering the issues raised, Commissioner Anyebe stressed the need for reconciliation, mutual understanding, accountability and transparency, while urging the various stakeholders to place the collective interests and welfare of Kogi State students above individual differences.
As part of the resolutions reached, the parties were encouraged to set aside their differences and embrace dialogue as the preferred means of resolving outstanding issues, with emphasis placed on the need to preserve the unity, stability and progress of NAKOSS.
The meeting also directed the current NAKOSS President and members of the current Executive Council to take the necessary steps towards withdrawing the ongoing court case instituted against some members of the immediate past administration.
The decision, according to the meeting, was aimed at creating an atmosphere conducive to genuine reconciliation and peaceful resolution of the issues that had generated tension between the two administrations.
The meeting further resolved that the Immediate Past National Public Relations Officer of NAKOSS, Comr. Obansa Abdulhayyu, should issue a rejoinder to the previous petition and provide clarification on the issues raised therein.
The rejoinder is expected to present the perspective of the immediate past administration, address the concerns contained in the petition and provide further clarity on the matters under contention as part of the broader reconciliation process.
The financial issues surrounding the immediate past administration also featured prominently during the meeting.
In the interest of transparency and accountability, the Immediate Past National President, Comr. Simon Adeola Sunday, presented a breakdown of funds received during his tenure and the manner in which the funds were expended.
The financial presentation was made before the Commissioner and other representatives present at the meeting and formed part of efforts to clarify the financial concerns raised against the immediate past administration.
The stakeholders were also urged to avoid actions, statements or engagements capable of further escalating the disagreements, with the meeting stressing the importance of maturity, restraint, responsible leadership and constructive engagement in resolving institutional disputes.
Commissioner Anyebe further encouraged both the current and immediate past leaderships to rely on dialogue and appropriate institutional channels whenever disagreements arise, rather than allowing differences to degenerate into prolonged conflict.
He also urged the parties to respect established processes for addressing grievances and allow the reconciliation initiative to achieve its intended purpose.
The meeting placed particular emphasis on the need to move NAKOSS forward by restoring peace, unity and confidence within the association.
The stakeholders were encouraged to redirect their attention towards issues affecting the welfare, education, development and collective interests of Kogi State students, rather than allowing internal disagreements to overshadow the objectives of the association.
At the end of the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their commitment to peace, reconciliation, accountability, transparency and unity within NAKOSS.
They acknowledged the importance of allowing the reconciliation process to take its course and expressed their willingness to respect the resolutions reached in the overall interest of NAKOSS and the wider body of Kogi State students.
The meeting also provided an avenue for the concerned parties to present their respective positions, clarify outstanding issues and commit themselves to peaceful and constructive engagement going forward.
