The President of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN), Jubril Ojih, on Saturday graced the second edition of the NYANYA All Stars Handball Competition held in Abuja as the Special Guest of Honour.
The competition, organized by the Abuja-based NYANYA All Stars Handball Club, brought together veteran players, handball enthusiasts, and stakeholders in a celebration of unity, fitness, friendship, and continued passion for the sport.
The tournament, tagged “Match Proper – Second Edition 2026,” featured multiple teams competing in an atmosphere that highlighted the enduring spirit of handball development at the grassroots and veterans’ level.
Speaking during the event, the HFN President commended the leadership and members of the NYANYA All Stars for sustaining the initiative and remaining committed to the growth of handball in the Federal Capital Territory and Nigeria as a whole.
Jubril Ojih particularly applauded the Chairman of NYANYA All Stars, Rotimi Babatunde Edun, for his dedication to keeping the club united and active through regular sporting engagements and developmental programs.
According to the HFN President, the consistency of the competition reflects the passion and commitment of the organizers toward preserving the values of handball while creating opportunities for veterans and younger players to remain connected to the game.
“I am impressed with what NYANYA All Stars are doing for handball. Keeping yourselves together, organizing competitions, and maintaining this level of commitment to the sport is highly commendable. This is the kind of initiative that will continue to help develop and sustain handball in Nigeria,” he stated.
In his remarks, the Chairman of NYANYA All Stars reaffirmed the club’s loyalty and support to the current leadership of the Handball Federation of Nigeria. He pledged that the association would continue to contribute positively to the advancement and promotion of handball through community-based competitions and developmental activities.
He also appreciated the presence of the HFN President and his entourage, describing the visit as a major morale booster for the players and organizers.
The HFN President was accompanied to the event by respected handball stakeholders including Coach Innocent Chukwuma, Coach Aminu Ibrahim, alongside other Abuja-based veterans and supporters of the game.
During interactions with the organizers, several requests aimed at improving the competition and supporting handball activities were presented to the Federation. Responding promptly, the HFN President assured the club of the Federation’s continuous support and readiness to partner with genuine initiatives that promote the development of handball across the country.
The successful staging of the second edition of the NYANYA All Stars Handball Competition further underlines the growing role of veterans’ clubs and community-driven tournaments in strengthening the handball ecosystem in Nigeria.
